Saturday, January 21, 2023 –A young hacker aged 22 years has been dragged to court over sh 900,000 he siphoned from a Mombasa bank.
Francis Mairura from Kisii County, the suspect, hacked the systems of a microfinance bank and managed to transfer thousands of money to his mobile phone.
Detectives found out that the young man who hails from Nyamondo Village, Gusha South executed a hi-tech swindle game, which involved a breach of the Sacco’s IT systems and directed the money to six M-Pesa accounts which he controls.
On Friday January 20 afternoon, detectives established that the suspect had rented two houses – one in Witeithie Estate in Thika and the other in Gitambaya Tuiru.
And when he noticed that he was being hunted down by policemen, he fled to his rural home in Kisii County where he was finally nabbed.
The surprise raid saw the culprit cornered and flashed out of his hide out leading to recovery of a whopping sh 600,000, three mobile phones and an HP laptop which he uses in carrying out the heists.
He has since been driven to Mombasa where he will be processed and charged accordingly even as police still ponder about the remaining sh 300,000 which is yet to be recovered.
