Sunday, April 16, 2023 – The aborted AFC Leopards and Homeboyz Fc match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega has seen a section of both fans and teams’ managements unhappy with the chaos.
On Sunday March 16 afternoon, AFC Leopards match against hosts Kakamega Homeboyz stopped prematurely after Leopards’ fans became rowdy and poured onto the football pitch in protest of the coach.

They believed that the coach was not only incompetent but also biased towards the hosts what saw them start losing the match at early stages of the game.
They then started pelting stones into the pitch before breaking in and charging toward remained helpless.
And reacting to the happening moments later, Homeboyz founder and Chairman Cleophas Shimanyula aka Toto noted that he was not happy with the Leopards fans for their unbecoming conduct.
“I am disappointed with this behaviour. You know I came here with by charges to hand Leopards a dog’s beating but, anyway, they have done what they had planned to stop the march.
“I would like to, however, remind them that it’s not over until it’s over,” he added.
On the other hand, officials from AFC Leopards side led by Dan Shikanda heaped their blame on the security agencies for their laxity in keeping order in the stadium.
Shikanda argued that any high-stake match like that of today needed adequate police officers to make sure there is orderliness.
“In Nairobi, whenever we have such a game, we make sure there is enough security with over 1000 police officers present,” he noted.

The Chairman wondered how only 5 policemen could be deployed at Bukhungu today when everybody knows a game between Homeboyz and Leopards is another high-stake derby.
He reminded the media that Homeboyz’ players came to the pitch to punish his boys owing to the fact that it’s the Leopards who denied them last season’s KPL title at the same venue.
