Tuesday, May 2, 2023 –Securitiy details for Opposition leaders have reportedly been withdrawn. Homenews.co.ke can learn.
The revelation was made by Azimio la Umoja politicians who claimed, on Tuesday, March 2, that the State had withdrew their personal security as they take to the street for the second phase of protests.
Affected in the measure were their boss, Raila Odinga as well as Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka. Also affected by the move was former running mate, Martha Karua.
“The Ruto govt has ordered the immediate withdrawal of security details of Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka together with those of other elected leaders in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition,” partly read the statement.
ODM Communications Director Philip Etale was first to make public this claim but equally asserting that, despite the withdrawal, the protests still stand as scheduled.
“Even with the withdrawal of security detail of Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka, Azimio supporters are undeterred. They will provide 24-hour security to their leaders,” he stated.
Earlier, there were rumours of confusion after the opposition leaders failed to turn up for anti-government protests that began the day from Kawangware through Kangemi-Waruku all the way to Kiambu County.
It would emerge that the coalition leaders were, instead, held up in a meeting at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill, Nairobi, where they discussed a number of issues pertaining to the bipartisan talks.
