Thursday, December 1, 2022 –-Justice and Legal Affairs Committee JLAC has recommended suspension of Juliana Cherera alongside her three other colleagues.
Making the ruling on Thursday December 1, the committee recommended that the four IEBC commissioners who dissented in the just-concluded elections be punished and if possible replaced as soon as possible.
The detailed report prepared by JLAC whose chairman is George Murugara is requesting President William Ruto to quickly come up with a special tribunal that will investigate the conduct of the four commissioners – Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya – over their alleged misconduct in the last polls.
“The committee recommends that the President suspend the four Commissioners herein pending the Tribunal verdict,” partly read the report.
This report was made after the four commissioners were summoned to appear before the committee last week.
They would show up in the first siting before snubbing the rest of the sessions; a move that saw MPs take issue with them.
Instead, Ms Cherera and her colleagues decided to write back to the committee through their lawyers. They would shortly get a political backup from Azimio la Umoja leadership; with Raila Odinga threatening to go the streets should their ouster exercise not stop.
But now should the tribunal investigate the four and find them culpable, this will be the end of their job at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.
