    CJ Orders Punishment on Rogue Judicial Officials in Paul Mackenzie Case

    Thursday, April 27, 2023 –Supreme Court President and Chief Justice Martha Koome has started investigating wanting judiciary officials who could have been involved in handling Pastor Paul Mackenzie’s case since 2017.

    Chief Justice Martha Koome, on Thursday, April 27, directed that the case surrounding Mackenzie be looked into so that to establish how the man of cloth came and left corridors of justice unpunished.

    In her capacity as the chairperson of the Judiciary Service Commission JSC, the CJ stated that the commission was examining the records to establish whether there was any misconduct on the part of the Judicial Officers and staff who handled the matter.

    “The judiciary offers deep sympathy to the families, relatives, and friends of victims affected by the unraveling mass deaths, sufferings, and injuries at the Shakahola village in Kilifi County,” read part of the statement.

    She added that it was time to discipline any judiciary official who participated in the release of the controversial pastor who plied his trade in Malindi and its environs.

    “The Judicial Service Commission is charged with handling disciplinary issues and the leadership of the Judiciary. The Judiciary reaffirms its commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law in the administration of justice,” she stated.

    The CJ would list a number of cases which involved Mackenzie and how he was mysteriously freed to continue with his rouge conduct in the society.

    Homenews.co.ke looked into one of the cases reported in 2017, which Mackenzie was charged with offering basic education in an unregistered institution contrary to Section 76(1)(2) and Section 92(a) of the Basic Education Act.

    The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions ODPP would, shortly, release him after a plea bargain in the court.

    Subsequently, Mr. Mackenzie was charged with radicalisation, failing to take his kids to compulsory primary and secondary education. Interestingly, he was freed with cash bails not exceeding sh 1 million

    In 2019, the self-proclaimed preacher was flagged by the Kenya Film Classification Board KFCB under EzekielMurtua for airing an unauthorised content on his TV station.

    His recent arrest unearthed a mind disturbing scenario of at least 103 bodies of both children and adults buried on his vast 800 acres of land in Shakahola Forest in Malindi, Kilifi County.

    He is now in police custody with government seeking to press heavy penalties including genocide charges on him.
