Wednesday, May 24, 2023 –Alex Olaba who was charged together with colleague Frank Wanyama has been handed a staggering six years behind bars for threatening to kill a witness in their rape case against musician Wendy Kemunto.
The former Harlequins rugby player, according to the court decision delivered today Wednesday May 24, will spend six years in jail after a court found him guilty of plotting to kill a witness in a sexual assault case of a female musician.
In his Wednesday ruling, Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo said he had considered Olaba’s mitigation and a probation report tabled in court and reached to a conclusion that he ought to be punished for his actions of trying to tamper with justice.
Police said they set a trap for the former Kenya 7s star after they got wind of his plot to eradicate key witness in a bid to frustrate the rape case filed by musician, Wendy Kemunto.
While rendering the ruling inside Nairobi Court today, Judge Onsarigo noted that the prosecution had proved beyond doubt its case against the accused person.
“Having gone through the evidence in this case, I find the accused guilty of the offence,” the magistrate ruled.
Earlier this month, the court found the former rugby star guilty of hatching a plot to kill a witness back in 2021.
In the gang rape case, Mr. Olaba is charged alongside his counterpart, Frank Wanyama.
