Tragic road crash which happened along Machakos-Kitui Road in Machakos County on Friday evening left four family members dead on the spot.

Our sources confirmed that there was a head on collision which happened near Machakos Girls High School between a private car and a Kenya Power and Lighting Company KPLC lorry.
Though the exact number of occupants in the car was not immediately established, well-placed sources indicated that they all perished. This is according to the preliminary reports which also confirmed that lorry passengers and their driver were not injured.
The tragedy was first reported by Sikika Road Safety on Friday December 4th evening who mentioned how this accident was caused by carelessness on one of the involved parties due to overtaking at the continuous yellow line.
“Sad news just in…..there is a serious head _on collision accident involving a KPLC lorry and a personal car at a continuous yellow line at Machakos near Machakos girls high school…..we hear all the people in the personal car have died,” read the Facebook update.
Kenyan Road Safety rules requires that no road user should overtake along the continuous yellow line. This line is mostly referred to as ‘no passing line; in layman’s tongue.

The line is marked on the road at that point where the road safety body thinks there might be danger ahead due to sharp bends or corners. It therefore restricts unnecessary overtaking but what most rogue drivers do, they ignore such signs to beat time.
In developed countries, for instance, police are usually stationed at such points so that to control such errant road users.
This fatal accident is coming at a time everyone is preparing to enjoy their festive season with many town dwellers now relocating to their rural homes for the month-long December holiday.
