riday, April 23, 2021 -Alex Olaba Mahanga was on Thursday April 22 arrested by police for plotting to murder key witness in their case in which they were accused of gang rape alongside Frank Wanyama.
According to news reaching Homenews desk, the former rugby player was in the process of eliminating a witness who was set to testify against them in the rape case.
The two suspects who had earlier been convicted for 15 years in jail found reprieve after the Milimani Court in August 2020 set them free on cash bail of 300,000 each.
Police who got wind on his new plot to eliminate the witness, stated that the rugby player was after the life of the said key witness in their case as part of their effort to defeat justice.
The dramatic arrest took place in Nairobi West where he was meeting an undercover detective planning the murder. They recovered two mobile phones from Olaba which are now under forensic analysis to establish more players.
Before he could execute his dirty deal, the said undercover tipped other police officers who came posing as possible executors of his mission before they pounced on him.
The Star revealed that on learning about his second arrest, he told police he was being possessed by satanic spirits and pleaded for them to set him free but they continued frog matching him ahead. He will be facing a second case of attempted murder and conspiring to defeat justice.
Wanyama and Olaba were serving their freedom on cash bail in their previous case which is yet to reach its full conclusion.
Magistrate Zainab Abdul set them free following their not guilty plea to the charges of gang rape and committing an indecent act without consent. This was after they were subjected to a retrial.
Their 15 year jail term for each had been ruled by Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku in August 2020.
“The complainant was traumatised hence a deterrent sentence is necessary,” Mutuku ruled in camera.
Present during the historic ruling exercise were only the accuser and respondents.
