Saturday, August 13, 2022 –Ministry of Education has moved school opening date to Thursday August 18 from earlier date of Monday August 15.
Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof George Magoha, made this change on Saturday August 13 saying this was due to the prevailing political activities around the country.
“This communication supersedes any earlier communication on the re-opening of basic education institutions,” Magoha announced.
He argued that everybody including parents and teachers should understand this change arising from vote tallying exercise which is yet to complete.
“Following the conduct of our National Elections on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, the process of tallying ballots is still ongoing.
“Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the re-opening of ALL Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, August 15, 2022, until Thursday, August 18, 2022,” the statement further read.
Prof Magoha disclosed that IEBC had reached out to them requesting for some time to move their materials from various learning institutions where voting was stationed.
