Sunday, December 4, 2022 –President William Ruto has warned opposition leader Raila Odinga against plunging the country into mayhem and economic sabotage.
Speaking today Sunday during a church service at the University of Embu, Ruto stated that plans by the opposition to start their countrywide demonstrations will be taken care of accordingly. He added that he will not be deterred from developing the country by the usual negative forces.
“We will continue without development programmes with or without public rallies because we know that they do not want the country’s economy to grow,” he said.
Ruto reminded Mr. Odinga that this is not the time to do politics of destruction, threats and blackmail. He also warned that it was wrong for Odinga to threaten the country’s security through unsubstantiated public utterances.
“They can do as they please but I assure them that Kenya is not going to be the same. You will not blackmail this nation and threaten the people of Kenya. We are determined to move the country forward and you will not hold us back. These people ought to be doing the work of the opposition,” Ruto noted.
On the same note, the president asked his Cabinet Secretary for Interior Prof Kithure Kindiki to reach out to the opposition, get their demonstrations timetable so that police can be deployed to protect their rallies and the public against unwarranted damages.
“I have asked CS Kindiki to ask them their demonstration schedule so that we provide security to protect them and they do not vandalize people’s property,” he noted.
Ruto quipped that Raila should make his work easier by informing government how frequent they want to demonstrate on the streets so that security and, if possible, logistics can be arranged early in time.
“They should also tell us if they want to demonstrate every day, every month, and for how many years, because we are used to them,” he quipped.
Also speaking at the same place, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua linked Raila’s threats to a plot to push his way into the government.
The Azimio la Umoja leader vowed to start public demonstrations next week to oppose Ruto’s leadership style.
