Two young Kenyans from University are facing charges of attempting to defraud a local bank a whopping sh 215.1 million.

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology JKUAT IT students appeared before Resident Magistrate Carolyne Muthini Njagi to answer to the charges where they are accused of attempting to empty bank accounts off the said six figures.

The two Anne Wambui and Anthony Mwangi were dragged to court after the said bank learnt of their fishy online activities in which they had already managed to siphon sh 24.4 million while another sh 190.7 was on the way out.

Immediately, Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI launched a manhunt that saw the two male and female computer students nabbed and brought to court.

Accounting on the happenings, defense narrated that one of the suspect played a major role in raising this loophole with the said bank through his Twitter account.

“It is the first accused who initiated his prosecution process by informing bank authorities that there was a hitch in its system.

“I request the court to release the suspects on Ksh 100,000 cash bail as they are students who are not financially able to raise a substantial amount,” the suspects’ lawyer defended.

As if that was not enough, the said suspect raised a second alarm through an SMS but the bank still ignored his calls before he was later summoned by the bank management where he volunteered only to meet with law enforcers.

They were however freed on cash bail of sh 500,000 each or sh 2 million bond with the case scheduled to be heard on Tuesday November 10.

In 2017, a computer Information Systems gook by the name Alex Mutuku then 28 years old emerged as the best cyber-criminal expatriate from a local university after he orchestrated a number of electronic theft targeting KRA systems in which he managed to run away with a whopping sh 4 billion.

His story read like a thriller movie from Hollywood of one naughty but clever young man who make quick billions through sophisticated computer softwares while sited on his bed in pajamas. Video/Courtesy–
