Thursday, January 19, 2023 –Narc Kenya Party boss Martha Karua now wants President William Ruto to record a statement with police over his utterances on murder plot against former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
Through a written statement of Wednesday January 18 afternoon, Ms Karua wondered why the head of State was speaking on this murder scheme after Chebukati’s tenure came to an end just this week.
She described such pronouncements as incitements meant to portray the opposition as an organization full of criminals; what is not the case.
“Why did Chebukati not disclose this to the court during the presidential petition or better still report the matter to the police? Six months into the Ruto regime why has no action been taken if these allegations have any iota of truth?
“It is irresponsible for a leader to abuse public office to make unsubstantiated allegations against his competition and against public officers junior to him (Cherera four) to the extent of compromising the ongoing Tribunal against one of them. Is Ruto ready to record a statement,” she stated further.
The former Odinga’s running mate argued that Chebukati ought to have immediately made a report on this and not wait for Ruto to do it six months later.
Terming the utterances from the head of State as desperate attempts to paint them in bad faith, Ms Karua reminded the president that he is now incharge of the country and ought to behave as such by desisting from running propaganda at the time the country wants healing and proper leadership.
“My take is that this is carefully designed propaganda by a regime desperate to gain legitimacy by spewing outrageous falsehoods aimed at hoodwinking the public while undermining its competition,” she noted.
Other leaders who have taken issue with Ruto’s words include, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina as well as vocal Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Mt Kenya politician Kabando wa Kabando as well as section of Azimio-allied lawyers have also faulted President Ruto.
