Friday, June 3, 2022 –Chief Justice Martha Koome now wants Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC to streamline voting process ahead of August 9 polls.
Reacting to claims made by Deputy President William yesterday June 2 when he was meeting members of the European Union, CJ Koome has asked the leadership at IEBC to put everything right to make the elections authentic.
And addressing the issue on Friday June 3, Koome said there is enough time for the IEBC to prepare for credible elections that will leave no doubts among the participants.
“It is such a proactive approach to addressing concerns that might be raised by voters and stakeholders that ensures that the IEBC and all Kenyans become agents and champions of electoral integrity and also engenders the confidence of Kenyans in the credibility of the electoral process,” Judge Koome stated.
Yesterday Thursday June 2, Deputy President William Ruto reported to the EU that there was an open attempt to tamper with his numbers so that to deny him victory in favour of Raila Odinga who the State is backing to succeed Uhuru.
“We expect that everybody who is concerned including the EU to try and get as much detail as possible both from the electoral commission and these public officials on what all this is all about and how did close to a million names disappear from the register. And many of those names are from what we consider our stronghold. It is a clear attempt to try some monkey games,” Ruto told the European Union Envoys.
But shortly, IEBC chairperson, Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati, came out to dismiss the claim as baseless.
