Friday, April 21, 2023 –Lawyer Miguna Miguna is among local public figures who lost their Twitter Blue verification checkmark in a crackdown which escalated today Thursday April 20 afternoon.
The Canadian-based barrister on Thursday evening, ran to his handle to post a screen grab of his profile that had lost the prestigious blue tick.


He, however, joined several other Kenyan among them Larry Madowo and Human Rights Activist Boniface Mwangi is promising that he will not part with any coin to restore the glorious badge.
“Goodbye @verified blue tick. I’m not paying @elonmusk one red cent for the blue tick!” Miguna remarked immediately after losing the mark
Elon Musk-owned Twitter Company today intensified the exercise to withdraw thousands of blue tick marks from its users in Kenya.
This is as per his last year announcement to take away verification from accounts that don’t pay for the company’s Twitter Blue subscription service. Initially, the badge, represented by a blue checkmark next to a user’s name, indicated that the account was authentic.


Several accounts owned by Mediamax Network Limited, Nation Media Group, Radio Africa Group and Royal Media Services had already lost their badges by the evening of Thursday April 20.
Moreover, pages run by the government entities e.g the Ministry of Interior and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were also affected in the new move.
