Friday, May 19, 2023 –Lodwar residents in Turkana have lynched three armed robbers who invaded a hotel and started shooting at customers as they robbed them their valuables.
The Wednesday, May 17 incident, shows four well-armed thugs entering Seasons Hotel before one of them started opening fire at innocent clients who were busy sampling their meals.
This saw the terrified customers scamper for their safety out as the goons continued visiting havoc inside the hotel room.
Those who could no longer make a move remained flat on the ground for about three to four minutes.
Shortly, one of the gunmen was captured struggling with the gun, which reportedly malfunctioned as confirmed by area police through police report – OB NO. 83/17/05/2023 – indicating that the ‘gun developed a stoppage’.
“They took approximately Ksh20,000, which was the day’s sales, then the robbers tried to escape using a motorbike which failed to ignite. Bodaboda riders at the adjacent stage started shouting for help.
“They also tried to fire one round in the air to scare them away but their firearm developed a stoppage,” read the incident report in part.
This quickly saw the onlookers swing into action as they overpowered the police hence managing to lynch three gunmen.
“Furious members of the public overpowered police and lynched the three suspects. At the scene, three bullet heads, three spent cartridges and one live bullet of 7.62mm special were recovered.
“Also, a numberless motorcycle suspected to be used by the suspects was also recovered,” read the report in part.
By bad luck, one of the suspects escaped unhurt with the bodies of his colleagues tranfered to the Lodwar County Referral Hospital morgue.
