Tuesday, May 16, 2023 –Director of Public Prosecution DPP Noordin Haji has today been nominated by President William Ruto for the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service NIS.
President Ruto made the nomination through a Gazette Notice issue of Tuesday May 16; this coming ahead of the retirement of Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, the outgoing NIS Director-General.


Major-General (RTD) Kameru was appointed as Director-General in September 2014 by then President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Consequently, it is notified that Excellency the President has, In accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Haj, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service,” President Ruto stated in the appointment.
Once his nomination is approved by Parliament, Mr. Haji will be making a return to the National Intelligence Service NIS where he previously served as the Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within NIS.
Haji is expected to be vetted by Parliament’s Defence and Foreign Relations Committee PDFRC after which the President will officially appoint him to the position.


Noordin Mohamed Haji is a Kenyan advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a position he has held for the last 21 years and the current Director of Public Prosecutions, who replaced Keriako Tobiko.
