Corruption came back to haunt Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru whose homes were raided by State detectives in their efforts to find crucial graft documents that would help solidify a case against her.
Waiguru who survived an impeachment barely a month ago, woke up on bad news that Kenya Ethics and Anticorruption Commission EACC officials had surrounded her homes both Kihingu in Kirinyaga County and Kitisuru in Nairobi.
The raid, according to our sources, extended to her offices with the main aim being to collect more evidence that would support investigations being carried out with regard to abuse of office.
The governor, apart from the infamous National Youth Service mega scandal that saw her named adversely, in Kiringaga County where she is the governor, locals also wants her to explain how she is spending county money.
Members of County Assembly from the area have suspected that the ‘high handed’ governor has been misusing county funds and the only alternative was for her to leave office. The fight between the two has been there for a longtime and may not and anytime soon.
The detectives who led the Thursday morning raid, were fully armed with court search warrants which they claimed informed their decision.
Waiguru was in mid-July grilled by EACC officials for having received sh 10.6 million for trips that never were.
Local Members of the County Assembly impeached Waiguru on June 9th citing gross violation of office and abuse of powers. She was however saved at the Senate level when Cleopahs Malala-led select committee cleared her of any wrong doing. They argued that all the accusations leveled against her were fiction and could not be directly linked to her.
“The Committee having investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Governments Act and standing order 75(2) of the Senate Standing Orders reports to the Senate that it finds that the two Charges against the Governor have not been substantiated,” read Malala’s committee report.
The development irritated Kirinyaga MCAs who vowed to stage another coupe that will haunt the governor out of office. They started the process on July 13 and already 1000 signatures had been collected.
