Tuesday, March 23, 2021 -Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party MP Tim Wanyonyi reportedly wants to vie for Bungoma gubernatorial seat on Ruto’s Party.
These claims have played out just a day after Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa, on Sunday, announced his plans to move away from Tanganta politics through what he referred to as a ‘sabbatical leave’.
It has however, emerged that Mr. Barasa had smelt betrayal from Ruto’s camp who are allegedly plotting to use Tim Wanyoyi for the next Bungoma race.
And on feeling shortchanged, Barasa had to start throwing tantrums so that he could be noticed by DP Ruto for an immediate clarification.
Reports on media have also indicated that the younger brother to Wetang’ula had already been endorsed by a section of Ruto allies; a move that appeared to complicate Barasa’s plans to get support from Ruto in 2022.
It has also emerged that Sirisia MP John Waluke and MP Barasa have, for long, had a political tiff over who should represent Ruto in Bungoma County and therefore struggle for resources. This, according to insiders, also informed Barasa’s recent outburst.
MP Wanyonyi is an elected ODM MP for Westlands who replaced Fred Gumo in 2013 and was reelected in 2017 on the same ticket. He is arguably the best performing member of Parliament in ODM Party.
What therefore remains disturbing many people is his decision to leave Raila for Ruto at a time Mr. Odinga was looking forward to have him as their preferred candidate for Nairobi governor.
And if it turns true that he wants to vie for Bungoma seat on UDA Party, the career lawyer will then have to contend in the race with the likes of Wycliffe Wangamati and current Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.
Lusaka served as the area governor for only one term between 2013 and 2017 before he was badly flowed by a new entrant – Mr. Wangamati – who had full support from Wetang’ula of Ford Kenya.
