Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s best performance celebration has been cut short by the loss of his chief aide Robert Sumbi.
Sumbi who took over from Nabii Nabwera as governor’s Chief of Staff in 2018 is reported to have succumbed to Covid-19 virus which has hit hard the county.
Further reports reaching Homenews.co.ke desk also indicate that over 57 health works had been infected with the virus after they were confirmed to have tested positive.
This spike, according to Citizen Tv, triggered the governor to shut down activities at the headquarters with a total of 155 persons now in isolation Centers. Seven victims, according the governor, are already succumbed to the deadly virus.
“Today I have chaired the county multi-agency team which established that the virus is spreading fast in the county because residents have constantly ignored the protocols and restrictions that had been put in place by the ministry of health to curb the spread of the pandemic,” Oparanya said in his latest statement.
Oparanya, who is also the Chair Council of Governors CoG, while reacting to the surging numbers of those infected said the county had insufficient Intensive Care Unit ICU urging the National Government to hastily swing into action to help control the pandemic which he predicts might bring down the entire county in few days to come.
Reports have emerged from the county showing how three major isolation centers (Mumias, Likuyani and Kakamega Referral Hospital) are already filled with patients.
The late Robert Sumbi lost life while undergoing treatment at Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital on Thursday October 29th morning.
Residents have been urged to take serious the precautions as stipulated in the Covid-19 protocol to avoid contracting the virus which now seems to be causing havoc around Kakamega County.
