Saturday, June 3, 2023 –Exiled Citizen Tv reporter Purity Mwambia has retracted her earlier sentiments that she had been abandoned in the United States of America USA after she moved there two years ago.
The seasoned investigative journalist who fled to the States in 2021 after exposing rouge police officers who hire guns to thugs around the city, on Tuesday, mentioned how she was almost becoming homeless after an unnamed organisation abandoned her in the U.S.
“Thank you for this opportunity. My challenges are not very different from other investigative journalists in exile. First of all, when you come here from your country where you’ve done big stories, you’ve quoted all these people who are doing some corruption, big shots in the government… but believe me, when you come here, it’s like your voice is silenced.
“Some who come here say it is like the American dream but has its own challenges. You find yourself in a place where there is no one to talk to, no one to run to. Personally, I was brought here by an organisation and they abandoned me. They left me, I’m on the verge of homelessness because I don’t know what to do next,” Miss Mwambia said during the conference.
But on Saturday June 3, she came back to clarify that the her remarks made at a State Department forum in Washington DC were not directed to Royal Media Services RMS as some sections had believed.
“On Tuesday, I made remarks at a State Department forum in Washington DC narrating my experiences with a human rights group; experiences very well known to that group. Just note, I continue carrying my career cross proudly with the total support of my employer back home,” she clarified.
On its part, Royal Media Services RMS also released their statement in which it shared that, since the journalist moved to the U.S, she is being taken care of todate and that she is still their full-time worker on a payroll.
Her moving to the U.S was after she started receiving night life-threatening calls and texts from senior police officers and gunmen around the city over the expose. Then she had to flee the country.
