Tuesday, October 18, 2022 –Social media went on fire on Monday October 17 after former Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega ignited a debate over his wealth.
Kega who took to his Twitter posed a question on how many years it could take a man to deplete sh 1 billion in his or her bank account.
“If you have 1 BILLION shillings and spend 100K per DAY it will take you 27 YEARS to deplete the account!” Kanini wrote on his Official Twitter account.
And triggered by this post, one Kariuki wa Kinyanjui quickly responded by recounting how the ex-MP used to make astounding deposits at the Kenya Commercial Bank KCB Thika Branch every week.
“During campaigns@kaninikega1 used to deposit around sh 50 million per week in Thika KCB bank. They used to say “Pesa ya Kanini imefika,” Kinyanjui commented on his Twitter page.
According to the source, this was happening at the height of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya campaigns in which Kega was key in managing grassroots support for Mr. Raila Odinga and Martha Karua.
Though Kega of Jubilee Party would eventually lose his parliamentary position to UDA candidate, Antony Wainaina, sources close to him claim that he was not shaken by the outcome since he had made enough to keep his family going.
