Friday, December 2, 2022 –Ferdinand Waititu has today been appointed a member of the newly-constituted Nairobi River Commission NRC.
President William Ruto picked the former Kiambu County governor to the position that will see the team fight to restore glory in the Nairobi waters currently suffering from heavy industrial pollution.
Waititu will also be working with Ms Pamela Olet who the president appointed the Chairperson of the new commission.
Nairobi River preservation efforts gained momentum early last month when it was realized there was endemic pollution threatening to render it completely harmful.
“The Nairobi River is a national shame. The level of pollution in the river is unacceptable and the quality of life of those who live next to it lacks dignity,” DP Rigathi Gachagua noted in his last address on the matter.
The Commission will comprise public, government and non-governmental members of interest who will work all-round-the-clock to come up with viable recommendations that will see it saved from further degradation.
“No single actor can deal with the issue alone. This river has been polluted for years and it will take a concerted effort to clean it up,” Gachagua also clarified.
Among other things, the commission will be expected to address health of its waters – free from chemical pollution so that to create and enhance livelihood around it.
