Tuesday, October 19, 2022 –Twenty four employees at Safaricom had to lose their jobs over fraud-related deals.
The cleaning exercise which ended in March 2022, according to the Telco management, was prepared in their final sustainability report released on Tuesday October 18.
The telco reached at this move after it conducted 27 investigations to ascertain the fraud that had led to complaints of clients’ money getting lost mysteriously.
“Sim-swap, a modern form of fraud, has resulted in several Kenyans losing money running into hundreds of thousands of shillings per victim.
“Sim-swap fraud is not only a concern to Kenya but other countries across the continent and the globe,” the report revealed.
After thorough investigations had been completed, the management therefore reached to a conclusion that 24 workers should be dismissed from duty as three remained warned.
In the same sustainability report, it is also disclosed that five others had been fronted to government agencies for further action including prosecution as their cases were far beyond the company and bordered on cyber-crime.
The report also indicated that ten cases were related to SIM-swap fraud. This being an increase by four from the previous year.
Eight others breached working policies as seven were linked to asset misappropriation hence messing with the processes of safeguarding the company together with its clients.
