Tuesday, January 24, 2023 –Kisumu County Government has been exposed for not paying services rendered to it by a section content creators.
Veteran musician from Kisumu, Suzanna Owiyo on Monday January 23, called out Governor Anyang Nyong’o for not compensating a group of artistes who showed up at the Africities Summit hosted in Kisumu Town afew months ago.
She explained that she was among those who were officially invited to entertain guests but, todate, she had not been paid.
Efforts to find a solution over the matter have never been fruitful despite numerous petitions and meetings with the organizers.
“I am sharing this because I want to raise a concern in regards to the Africities summit that took place last year in Kisumu sometime in May.
“On behalf of other artists who performed during the summit, I have decided to speak out on this matter because I feel that somebody somewhere must take action,” Owiyo lamented.
In her Monday statement, the Kisumu 100 hitmaker disclosed that they have been kept waiting for long with no hopes of things improving anytime soon.
“The response I keep getting is to wait for another week or another month. It has been several months since and the payments are still delayed.
“I am appealing to the County Government of Kisumu and the national government in charge to just pay the artists who performed.
“We rendered our services and we should be paid what we are owed. We are not asking for too much,” Owiyo stated.
Africities Summit is sort of a dialogue platform bringing together African ministers, mayors, leaders as well as elected officials.
It also involves Regional/county governments as well as civil society organizations.
